Preflight checklist for the Shoot

  1. Get to the location with plenty of time to set up, prep your equipment, and TEST your equipment.
Record some test footage and check that frame of image is square and tripod is ready. (Make sure there's no looseness of the camera mounting on the tripod.)
Check your sound levels and listen back to test footage for any major amount of hiss or interference from other electronic equipment. (Try other channels for better sound as necessary.)
Check your test footage for best white balance. (Easy to over- or under-cook the white balance if you're current shoot has different lighting from your last shoot.)
If you'll have audience participation, be sure to have a volunteer ready to run around with a second mic to capture audio of audience comments, questions, and so forth.
